The 17-year old girl staged unconsciousness till the doctors diagnosed otherwise. Doctors said that she was not in a state of shock as claimed by the family. The family had expected to get the compensation of Rs 1 Lakh offered by the UP government to the victims of braid-cutting incidents.
A case of forged 'braid cutting' has come to light when a UP family allegedly cut off the hair of their 17-year-old daughter in the hope of getting Rs 1 lakh compensation from the government. The incident was reported on Saturday from Laru village in Pratapgarh district. According to reports by the police, the family admitted the girl to a government hospital when she became unconscious. However, doctors found that she was not in a state of shock and was just staging the condition.

There have been reports of a braid sniper on the loose who attacks women and cut their braids without any provocation. Incidentally, till now no one has seen the culprit who has caused much panic among the people in Uttar Pradesh. People in villages in Khagrol, Dhoki, who have been most affected by the mania have now decided to ward off the 'evil' by hanging neem branches at the door.
