West Bengal's Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim made a shocking announcement at a meeting at Trinamool Bhavan on Thursday (March 4). He said that if any councillor from the wards where the Trinamool Congress is lagging behind can bring the lead, he will be given Rs 1 crore as prize money.

The Trinamool Congress wants to ensure victory in the 2021 Assembly elections. Therefore, they have taken this tactic to retain the backward wards.

BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya has compared Firhad Hakim's prize money announcement to ‘murder supari’. Even CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty has criticized Firhad Hakim’s announcement. He said, “It is illegal for Hakim to pay money in this way. The election commission should take action.”

The Trinamool Congress is going to release the list of candidates on Friday (March 5). Therefore, the TMC leadership sat in this meeting to fix the voting strategy. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor also joined the meeting. Abhishek Banerjee, Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Bakshi, Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, and other leaders were present at the meeting held at Trinamool Bhavan.

At the meeting, Firhad Hakim announced that if the Trinamool Congress brings the lead in the wards where the party was lagging behind in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, then Rs 1 crore will be given to the councillors of the wards concerned for the development of the area.

It may be mentioned that the councilors were instructed at Thursday’s meeting that before the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 7, the entire city should wrap the banner “Bengal wants its own daughter” and the TMC flag.

However, after the 19th Lok Sabha, the announcement of the prize money of the Trinamool Congress continued in the 21st Lok Sabha. However, the opposition has ridiculed this announcement of the Trinamool Congress.
