Barrackpore MLA Shilbhadra Dutta has resigned from the Trinamool Congress on Friday (December 18).

Shilbhadra Dutta has sent the resignation letter to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee by email.

Dutta said, “I think that I am unfit in the party in the present scenario. However, I will not resign as an MLA.”

“Why will I resign from the post of MLA. I have won the post by people’s vote. If I resign, where will they go?” he added.

Over the last few months, Shilbhadra Dutta has spoken against a section of the party's leadership.

After Suvendu Adhikari’s resignation, Pandabeswar MLA and Asansol civic body chief Jitendra Tiwari has also quit the party. Now, Barrackpore MLA Shilbhadra Dutta has also resigned from the TMC.

Former minister Shyamaprasad Mukherjee too has announced that he would leave the party and join the BJP.
