The All India Institute of Medical Sciences students association has put out an apology after a Ramlila performance by some of the students made headlines for the wrong reasons.
The video of the Ramayan skit, which among other scenes showed Ravan's sister Shurpanakha singing 'Tu cheez badi hai mast mast' while wooing Ram's brother Lakshman, went viral.
The modern interpretation of the mythological scripture came under major criticism with many finding the skit as insulting to the Hindu religion.
According to reports, the show was hosted by first-year MBBS student Soyeb Aftab.
Following the outrage, the AIIMS Student Association took to micro-blogging site Twitter and posted a message: "A video clip of a Ramleela skit done by some students of AIIMS has been circulating on social media. We apologise for the conduct of this skit. It was not meant to hurt anybody's sentiments. We will ensure that no such activity takes place in the future."
Unacademy, the education app which reportedly sponsored the show, is yet to issue a statement after the controversy erupted.
Meanwhile, social media is abuzz with users slamming the students and demanding action.
