JEE Advanced 2021 exam on Sunday; over 1.5L to take paper, sees dip of 6% from 2020

Of the 2.5 lakh students who passed the JEE (Main) test this year, 1,51,207 have enrolled for the advanced exam, representing an almost 6% drop year on year. The Sunday entrance exam for admission to the 23 IITs will also be taken by 354 foreigners, including OCIs and PIOs, who have travelled to India to take JEE (Advanced). JEE (Advanced) will be fully computer-based for the fourth time.

“We held a mock test at all exam centres last Saturday, and I would encourage students to appear for it to become acclimatised to how they may take the genuine advanced exam on Sunday,” said Debashish Chakraborty of IIT Kharagpur, the chairperson of JEE (Advanced). Students must adhere to the Covidprotocols.

This year, IIT Kharagpur will hold JEE (Advanced) exams at over 630 locations and candidates would be required to take two papers. Last year, out of the 2,50,681 students who passed JEE (Main), 1,60,838 enrolled for JEE (Advanced), and 1,50,838 took both tests. There were a total of 43,204 qualifying applicants.

 In 2020, the 23 IITs had a total of 16,053 seats, including 1,583 female supernumerary seats. This time, applicants were given 16,061 seats in the sixth and final round of allocation, which included eight supernumerary seats created for international candidates. At the conclusion of the last round, 62 OCI applicants and five PIO candidates were given seats.
