The Indian badminton players participate in the opening BWF tournament of 2021, the Thailand Open. The competition is off to a shocking start, with two Indians testing positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth has had a terrible experience with his testing.
Some of the top Indian badminton players are in Bangkok, participating in the BWF Thailand Open. However, the tournament is off to a shocking start.
Owing to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers maintain strict norms and get the players regularly tested. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth has had a terrible situation with his testing.
Srikanth took to his Twitter handle to share three images. In one of the pictures, he is seen with a bloody nose.
At the same time, in the other, he has the photo of two tissue papers, stained in blood, as he captioned the post, “We take care of ourselves for the match not to come and shed blood for THIS. However, I gave 4 tests after I have arrived and I can’t say any of them have been pleasant. Unacceptable”.
Meanwhile, two Indians have reportedly tested positive. While former world number one, Saina Nehwal is already confirmed of a positive test, HS Prannoy has got conflicting results and is scheduled to undergo another round of tests.
In the meantime, Saina, too, vented her frustration at the result, besides stating that she is yet to receive her test results on Monday. “I still didn’t receive the covid test report from yesterday it’s very confusing and today just before the warm-up for the match they tell me to got to hospital in Bangkok ... saying that I m positive ..according to rules the report should come in 5 hours.. @bwfmedia,” she said in a tweet.
Also, Parupalli Kashyap questioned BWF’s decision not to have the matches rescheduled for the false-positive tests. “Why no chance of rescheduling the match if false positive ?” he tweeted, as the same was retweeted by Prannoy.
