Lionel Messi wins IFFHS Playmaker of the Decade award, Cristiano Ronaldo misses out
Lionel Messi hails from Argentina and has made a name for himself by playing at Barcelona. He is a record six-time Ballon d'Or winner, while he is considered a modern-day Greatest of All-Time, alongside Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo. He continues to win copious accolades in his career.
Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi has added another name to list to accolades. He has been adjudged as the Best Playmaker of the Decade by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
However, his rival from Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo has missed out on the same, failing to make it to the top-ten. Nonetheless, the Portuguese has won the award for the Best Goal-scorer of the Decade.
According to the list by IFFHS, Messi topped the chart, followed by Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric on second and third, respectively. Ronaldo, meanwhile, finished 12th in the list.
The winner is determined based on the player's overall performance in the past decade, taking into consideration the yearly ranking system, decided by IFFHS. Messi, to date, has scored 648 goals for Barcelona.
As for Ronaldo, he did come up with 140 assists in the past decade. However, he could not venture near the Argentine, who racked 235. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has scored 657 club career goals.
