The Indian Premier League has seen several batting greats leave their mark over the years. As the 2026 season approaches, here are the five Indian batters with the most runs in the tournament’s history.

Virat Kohli – The Run Machine

Virat Kohli leads the charts with 8,661 runs in 267 matches, all for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Averaging 39.54 with a strike rate of 132.85, he has eight centuries and 63 fifties. His best of 113* came against Rajasthan Royals in 2024. Kohli’s standout season was 2016, when he scored a record 973 runs with four hundreds.

Rohit Sharma – The Hitman’s Legacy

Rohit Sharma has amassed 7,046 runs in 272 matches at an average of 29.73 and a strike rate of 132.09. He has two centuries and 47 fifties, with a top score of 109* against KKR in 2012. For Mumbai Indians, he scored 5,876 runs and led them to five titles. Earlier, he played for Deccan Chargers, adding 1,170 runs to his tally.

Shikhar Dhawan – Consistency Personified

Shikhar Dhawan sits third with 6,769 runs at an average of 35.25 and a strike rate of 127.14. He has two centuries and 51 fifties, with a best of 106* for Delhi Capitals in 2020. Dhawan represented five franchises, including SRH, where he scored 2,518 runs and was part of their 2016 title win.

Suresh Raina – Mr. IPL’s Impact

Suresh Raina scored 5,528 runs in 205 matches at an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.73. He registered one century and 39 fifties, with a best of 100* against PBKS in 2013. For CSK, he scored 4,687 runs and won four titles. He also played for Gujarat Lions, adding 841 runs to his record.

MS Dhoni ranks fifth with 5,439 runs in 278 matches at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45. He has 24 fifties, with a highest score of 84* against RCB in 2019. For CSK, he scored 4,865 runs and guided them to five titles. He also played for Rising Pune Supergiants, scoring 574 runs in 30 matches.
