It has been challenging for the United Kingdom (UK) citizens as it has witnessed a wave of high temperatures for the past few weeks. Also, scattered rains are bringing little relief in what has been the most scorching summer in the region in the recent past. There is unlikely to be a relief anytime soon, with the Meteorological Office forecasting another heated spell over the weekend. As a result, it is likely to make things tough for the footballers, especially during the afternoon games. On the same note, the English Premier League (EPL) 2022-23 will see water breaks re-introduced, allowing the players to cool themselves off during a match.

As per a DPA report, the heat wave would continue mainly in the southern half of England, along with some parts of Eastern Wales. However, not all EPL matches would have colling breaks and are likely to be limited to the games in the regions where the temperature would be above 30 degrees Celsius.

The cooling breaks would happen twice in the match, during the halfway stage of each half. Players, coaches and officials will be allowed to take part in the break, which would also allow the managers of the respective side to hand out some strategic advice to their team, depending on the situation team is in.

Although temperatures have harboured around 40 degrees in the past few weeks, it is expected to be in the 30s. But, it would still be above normal considering the regular summer temperatures in the UK. Sunday's match between West Ham United and defending champion Manchester City in London included a water break, while some of the EFL Cup matches this week also featured the same.
