After a poor show against Pakistan, Shafali Verma returned to her former self against the Dutch side, as she played an aggressive yet controlled innings of 55 off 38 balls. Her knock, which consisted of 10 fours, as well as her 115-run partnership with Smriti Mandhana, set the tone for the massive total of 209/5.

Beyond her batting, Shafali contributed significantly with the ball as she picked three wickets of Sterre Kalis, Silver Siegers, and Isabel Woning to help dismantle the Netherlands' batting lineup. Her all-round effort was instrumental in India’s dominant performance, as she broke key partnerships and ensured the Netherlands never recovered during the chase, turning the match firmly in India’s favour.

Shafali’s return to form was a big positive for Team India ahead of the remaining matches against South Africa, Australia, and Bangladesh

3. Shreyanka Patil’s Injury Scare

While Team India cruised to an emphatic 95-run win over the Netherlands, the Women in Blue’s victory was marred by y a concerning injury to off-spinning all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, sparking concern among her teammates as well as in the dugout.

The incident took place during the sixth over of the Netherlands when Shreyanka twisted her right ankle while attempting a sharp stop in her follow-through. Visibly in pain, the physiotherapist immediately attended to her, but she was unable to put her weight on the leg, leaving the field on the stretcher and taking no further part in the match.

The BCCI is expected to provide an official update on Shreyanka Patil’s injury, as fans and team management await news on whether the injury will rule the key spinner out of the tournament’s upcoming crucial fixtures against South Africa and Australia.

4. Shree Charani’s Clinical Four-Wicket Haul

The left-arm orthodox spinner Shree Charani delivered a masterclass in spin bowling. She was instrumental in controlling the middle overs, alongside Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma, as she dismantled the Dutch lineup with precise lines and subtle variations.

Charani picked up key wickets of Robine Rijke, Frederique Overdijk, Myrthe van den Raad, and Iris Zwilling to stifle any hopes of a Dutch resurgence. Her ability to consistently land the ball in dangerous areas and extract a sharp turn proved too difficult for the middle-order to handle. By systematically picking these wickets, Charani put on the Netherlands under pressure.

In two matches, Shree Charani has picked up seven wickets at an average of 5.71 and an economy rate of 5.00.

5. Dominant Start to Group A

Team India couldn’t have asked for a better start to their quest for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 than back-to-back victories over Pakistan and the Netherlands. In the opening match against Pakistan, though India’s batting was restrained early on, the team showcased their resilience to post a winning total, followed by a clinical bowling performance led by Deepti Sharma.

With a clinical 95-run victory over the Netherlands, India has solidified its position at the top of the Group A standings. Having secured two back-to-back wins, the Women in Blue have not only gained valuable four points but also significantly boosted their net run rate, which is currently at +3.975.

With crucial clashes ahead, especially against South Africa and Australia, Team India will be looking to maintain this momentum to secure their place in the semi-finals.
