It is said that when Dr. Radhakrishnan became President in 1962, his students and friends requested that he celebrate his birthday. He humbly replied, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teacher’s Day.” Since then, his birthday has been observed nationwide as Teacher’s Day.
