Yes, you heard that right. You need to understand your skin type before you wash your face. There are three kinds of basic skin types, oily, dry and a combination of both. Your skin needs your full attention; otherwise, it can revolt back. 

Oily skin needs deep-cleanse. So choose a foaming face wash to use. After that, you must use a cleanser if your skin is acne-prone. A double-cleansing always works.

To top it off use toner to control the sebum secretion. Pat your skin dry.
 

Always wash your face with cold water and get rid off that gel or cream or oil you have used. And, pat dry your face with a towel.

Combination skins are tricky ones. You have dry skin, and also your T-zone and chin secretes oil. So avoid the products that can rip off your skin's natural oils. Micellar water is a good option for cleansing. Use exfoliating scrub twice a week and better if you do more. Try to avoid alcohol-based products and use gel-based face wash. Pat dry your skin and tone it with some light and breezy water-based toner.
