Keep your friends in the loop: Safety matters. Keep your friends posted about the person you are meeting and the place you are going to. If the date does not go as planned your friend/s can always show up and save the day.

Stalk the person online: Do a background check on the other person before meeting them. Sometimes all information mentioned on an online profile might not be real. Make sure you are going out with a genuine person.
 

Choose the right place for your date: It's better to be safe and choose a public sphere. When you are meeting a person for the first time, it's always mysterious. So be on the safer side and meet the person in a cafe or a restaurant.
 

Have realistic expectations: Be genuine with your date. Be honest and open about your intentions with him or her. If you are not looking for a serious relationship, then be straightforward and tell them that.

Have an escape plan: It is always good to have a backup plan. If your date is boring or not like you expected him/her to be like, then always have a backup plan in mind. But keep the reason realistic. You can also call a friend over to get you out of there.
