Keep these communication tips in mind when you interact with your boss
Keep your conversation short and simple: Your boss is a busy person, so when you do approach him/her with a query, ensure that you keep your conversation to a minimum, and address the issue or concern in a short and simple manner. Don’t overcomplicate things and hem and haw when you start your conversation.
Ensure your boss is in the loop at all time: No boss likes being caught off-guard. This is applicable when things are smooth sailing as well. Most people report to their boss when things are not going well, but make sure that the positives are included as well. This builds trust and integrity, and your boss will be impressed with you, and this works both ways as well.
Get feedback: Always approach your boss with feedback on your work. That way you will know what areas require improvement or not.
Figure your boss’ communication style: Is he or she a phone person, or an email person? Does he or she prefer a detailed mail or just a short succinct message? Once you zero in on his / her preferred method of communication, simply follow suit.
Be true to who you are: Insincere flattery will only get you so far, so be true to yourself and how you interact with your boss.
