World Wildlife Day: PM Modi visits Gir National park, showcases lion conservation efforts (PHOTOS)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gir National Park on World Wildlife Day, emphasizing wildlife conservation. He highlighted efforts like habitat expansion, new hospitals, tracking centers, and hiring 237 beat guards. His Bruhad Gir initiative ensures broader lion protection, strengthening India’s commitment to biodiversity preservation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gir National Park in Gujarat for a lion safari. He wore a safari outfit and carried a camera, enjoying the beauty of Asiatic lions while promoting wildlife conservation on World Wildlife Day.

On World Wildlife Day, PM Modi urged everyone to protect wildlife. He emphasized that every species plays a role in nature and called for efforts to preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Asiatic lions live across 30,000 sq. km in 9 districts of Gujarat. The government has expanded conservation areas to ensure their protection, making Gir a stronghold for these majestic creatures.

A wildlife hospital and a high-tech tracking center have been set up in Sasan to treat injured animals and monitor lion movements, strengthening Gujarat’s conservation efforts.

In 2024, 237 beat guards (162 men and 75 women) were recruited to patrol Gir. Their job is to monitor the lions, prevent poaching, and ensure the safety of these endangered animals.

As Gujarat’s Chief Minister in 2007, Narendra Modi visited Gir, assessed wildlife challenges, and initiated long-term conservation efforts to protect lions and develop the Gir region.

PM Modi introduced ‘Bruhad Gir’, covering 30,000 sq. km from Barda to Botad. This initiative protects lions beyond Gir National Park and improves local communities’ livelihoods.

PM Modi’s vision has strengthened India’s wildlife conservation. Gir’s Asiatic lions have a brighter, safer future with better protection, healthcare, and monitoring. India takes pride in preserving its rich biodiversity.
