The Bengal Imam Association on Wednesday (January 6) lashed out at Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The association members said that their community needs no Muslim leader from outside the state.
The Bengal Imam Association accused Asaduddin Owaisi of creating a communal divide in the state. The chairman of the Association, Mohammed Yahiya, said they do not support communal politics in West Bengal.
Mohammed Yahiya said, “The Bengali Muslims and Bengalis have never got divided along religious lines. We strongly condemn the politics played by Asaduddin Owaisi surrounding the Muslims in the state. We do not want religious and caste-based politics. We cannot tolerate religious fanaticism.”
Mohammed Yahiya also accused Owaisi of helping the BJP by dividing Muslim votes. He said that Owaisi is helping the BJP by trying to divide the Muslim votes in Bengal.
"Muslims in Bengal will vote on the basis of economic and social issues. India is a secular democratic country and we shall fight to protect it," said Md Yahya.
Mohammed Yahiya went on to allege, “Owaisi is basically fooling Muslims in Bengal, he came and did not even meet his own party cadres but met a cleric. He is coming to build his own fortune here."
Asaduddin Owaisi’s meeting with Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui on Sunday (January 3) made speculation that a new political understanding is going to be formed ahead of the Assembly polls in West Bengal.
