General tickets are valid for 3 hours

If you have a general, unreserved ticket and miss your train, don't worry. You can use the same ticket to travel on another regular train on the same route. Usually, a general ticket is valid for three hours. But remember, if you try to board premium trains like the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, or Vande Bharat with this ticket, you will be fined.

You are likely to get a refund only if your original train was delayed by more than three hours. Here's another useful tip: even if you miss the train at your boarding station, the railway won't give your seat to someone else until the train has passed the next two stops.
