Kolkata metro introduces online smart card recharge facility to ensure faster commute
Kolkata Metro is focusing on smart card recharging system to avoid crowds at ticket counters. Here are few basic steps to be followed for online recharge of smart cards. Every passenger has to take the smart card before traveling in the metro and stop at the card balance checking terminal of the station.
Passengers are waiting for the Metro corridor to open. Metro service will be resumed on September 8, 2020, in the state of West Bengal. In order to maintain social distance, the Kolkata Metro Authority has decided to allow only the use of smart cards during Unlock 4 phase.
There are some basic steps to recharge the smart card online. First, go to Kolkata Metro Rail website (mtp.indianrailways.gov.in), then click on the online recharge option, and enter the smart card number.
Then you have to give the mail ID, passenger's mobile number, captcha code. After that, you have to type the amount of recharge. The recharge cost has to be met through SBI payment gateway.
Payment can be made through debit card, credit card, net banking, or mobile wallet. Every passenger has to take the smart card before traveling in the metro and stop at the card balance checking terminal of the station.
Meanwhile, passengers have got into trouble while recharging their smart cards online. According to Metro sources, the technical team will look into the matter on Wednesday (September 2) and resolve the issue quickly.
In Metro online recharge system, one passenger can recharge any amount of money on his smart card. In addition, the 10% discount on recharges from Metro counters will also be added to the smart card.

Besides, Kolkata Metro is going to take several measures for the safety of passengers. Proposals stating what measures will be taken to run the Metro in the COVID-19 situation have reached Delhi. The Metro Rail Authority will hold another meeting with the state in two-three days.
