Kerala gold smuggling case: Accused Swapna admits ‘casual association’ with CM Pinarayi Vijayan
The Kerala gold smuggling scam came to light after the customs department seized 30 kg gold from an air cargo consignment from the UAE to the country’s consulate in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.
The key accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh has admitted to have a ‘causal association’ with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, National Investigation Agency said
The NIA while opposing the bail plea told the NIA special court hearing the case in Kochi that former IT secretary M Sivasankar was Swapna's mentor
The NIA special court has posted the case for further hearing to Monday (August 10)
The investigation agency also said that Swapna had even gone to Sivasankar's flat to request him to intervene after diplomatic baggage containing about 30 kg of gold was seized by the customs
It is reported that Sivasankar did not budge, as per her statement to the NIA
The NIA and the Customs department are investigating the case. The NIA has so far arrested 10 people.
