Coronavirus: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, other leaders go into quarantine as FM minister tests positive
It is to be noted that this is the first time that a minister from the Kerala government has tested positive for COVID-19.
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders who attended the state secretariat meeting in the state capital have gone into self-quarantine as finance minister Thomas Isaac tested positive for coronavirus.
Health minister KK Shailaja, AC Moideen, E Chandrasekharan, VS Sunil Kumar, Kadannappally Ramachandran and KT Jaleel were among the ministers who went into quarantine. Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan has also gone into quarantine.
The finance minister has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital for COVID-19 treatment.
Due to cold and fever, Isaac decided to undergo an antigen test after which his test results turned out to be positive.
The state on Sunday reported the highest single-day spike of 3,082 cases.
As many as 2,196 recoveries were also reported taking the number total recoveries to 64,755.
Fifty health workers were among those infected by the virus. Ten fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 348.
