Deepika Padukone’s Indirect Response To The Controversy

Deepika Padukone has seemingly responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding her reported exit from Spirit, although she has not issued a direct statement.

The actor recently liked an Instagram post by journalist Janvi Manchanda that strongly criticised filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga and his brother, producer Pranay Reddy Vanga. The post came amid fresh claims about why Deepika was no longer part of Spirit.

The post argued that Deepika’s reported demands, including a share of the film’s profits and specific working conditions, were not unusual in the entertainment industry. It also questioned why similar demands are often viewed differently when made by male actors.

The journalist wrote that male stars negotiating profit-sharing deals, fixed working hours and other favourable terms are generally described as "disciplined", while women making similar demands can be labelled "difficult".

Deepika’s decision to like the post has therefore been viewed as her first apparent reaction to the controversy, even though she has not personally addressed the allegations.

What Did Pranay Reddy Vanga Say About Deepika’s Spirit Exit?

The controversy resurfaced after Pranay Reddy Vanga spoke about Deepika’s departure from Spirit in an interview with NTV Telugu.

According to Pranay, there were several reasons behind the decision, with remuneration and scheduling being among the primary issues. He said there were also other factors involved but that the final decision was made by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Pranay claimed that Deepika had asked for 10 per cent of the film’s profits. He explained that while an actor can make such a demand, the producers also have to consider whether the financial structure of the project can support it.

He said the team ultimately concluded that the economics did not work for them and decided to explore other casting options.

The profit-sharing claim has since become one of the central points of discussion surrounding Deepika’s exit from the much-anticipated film.

Vanga Brothers’ Script Leak Allegation Adds Another Twist

Pranay Reddy Vanga also made a more serious allegation against Deepika, claiming that details discussed with her about Spirit were subsequently leaked.

He alleged that the team had shared information about the story and her proposed character with Deepika during their discussions. According to him, after the makers began considering other options, details from those conversations were allegedly leaked.

Pranay said the team was upset because discussions held internally were not supposed to be made public.

Deepika, however, has not publicly responded to this particular allegation so far.

The controversy has consequently developed into a larger debate over actor remuneration, professional boundaries, working conditions and how male and female stars are treated differently within the film industry.

For now, Deepika’s Instagram activity remains her only apparent response, while the allegations made by Pranay Reddy Vanga have not been independently established.
