‘Chand Mera Dil’ Collects Rs 2.90 Crore on Opening Day

Directed by Vivek Soni, ‘Chand Mera Dil’ recorded an opening day collection of Rs 2.90 crore at the Indian box office. The film reportedly earned around Rs 3.39 crore gross nationwide while registering an overall theatre occupancy of 17.31 percent across 4,944 shows.

Considering the relatively low buzz surrounding the film before release, the opening numbers are being viewed as a moderate but respectable start for the romantic drama.

The film stars Lakshya Lalwani as Aarav and Ananya Panday as Chandni. It is backed by Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar.

Film Faces Competition From Bollywood and Hollywood Releases

At the box office, ‘Chand Mera Dil’ is currently competing with ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi.

The romantic drama also faced a clash with Hollywood release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which added pressure at multiplexes.

Despite the competition, ‘Chand Mera Dil’ managed to outperform Ek Din, which reportedly earned around Rs 1.15 crore on its first day.

CBFC Cuts Intimate Scenes Before Release

Apart from its box office performance, the film also made headlines due to changes suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification before release.

Reports stated that the certification board asked the makers to trim several intimate scenes, including removing a 10-second kissing sequence and replacing it with an alternate shot. Nearly 96 seconds of kissing visuals were reportedly edited out from the final cut.

The film eventually received a U/A 16+ certification ahead of its theatrical release on May 22, 2026.

Apart from Lakshya and Ananya, the movie also features Aastha Singh, Pratham Rathod, Aashish Dubey, Ankur Poddar, and Elvis Jose in supporting roles. The story revolves around engineering students navigating friendships, academics, relationships, and self-discovery during university life.
