Sachin Tendulkar recalls a memory from the past when he first met Prithvi Shaw. It was at that point when Tendulkar had predicted that Shaw would play for the Indian team going ten years forward. Shaw made his debut in 2018, smashing a century in his debut Test.
The stalwart from Mumbai, under whose captaincy India lifted the 2018 U-19 World Cup, is an Indian opener in the making.
Currently playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he made his debut for the Indian Team in a Test match against West Indies on 4 October 2018. He shined brightly in the match, as he scored his maiden century in the Test and became the youngest batsman to make a Test century on debut for India.
In one of the media interactions at a promotional event of MB100, Sachin Tendulkar reiterated a memory that he shared with the young talent. On one of his friend’s recommendation, who asked him about Shaw’s performance, Tendulkar could foresee the talent of the budding player.
Just when Shaw was selected in the Indian squad for the final two Tests in England, Tendulkar revealed, “Ten years ago, one of my friends asked me to take a look at a young Prithvi. He asked me to analyse his game and see if there anything he could work on. I had a session with him and gave a couple of pointers on how to improve his game. I told my friend later that he is going to go on and play for India.”
As the youngster played for India, he became the second most inexperienced First-Class player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to make his Test debut.
