Pataudi Trophy 2021, 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma all-praise for KL Rahul following centurion performance on Day 1
India is off to a great start in the second Test against England at Lord's. Meanwhile, KL Rahul's unbeaten century allowed India to finish on top on Day 1, as it drew acclaim from Rohit Sharma.
On Thursday, India produced a brilliant display of batting on Day 1 of the second Test against England of the Pataudi Trophy 2021 at Lord's in London. It was wicketkeeper-opener KL Rahul who played an unbeaten knock of 127 to keep India on top.
Besides Rahul, senior opener Rohit Sharma too played a significant role, with an innings of 83. However, he was praising Rahul, labelling him at his best, as he had a clear mindset heading into the game with his bat.
"At no given point, it looked like he was confused or overthinking. He was unequivocal with his plans, and when you trust your plans, it works. I thought today was his day, and he made it count," said Rohit during the press conference post Day 1.
On being asked what discussions did Rohit have with Rahul when they opened for the first time in the series, the former said that there were no discussions held, as Mayank Agarwal was scheduled to open instead of Rahul. "Unfortunately, Mayank got hit on his head, and he missed out due to concussion, and then only KL stepped in. Once we went out to bat, we were discussing what we need to do and things like that," he recalled.
Rohit also applauded Rahul for being communicative enough in the challenging conditions, making it easier for him to bat. "KL and myself, our mindsets are pretty similar, and we want to take the game forward," he concluded.
