IPL 2020: Match 7, DC beat CSK- A look at the records broken

This was Chennai Super Kings' second consecutive loss in the 2020 Indian Premier League, so far. CSK had already lost their last game against Rajasthan Royals. Meanwhile, this was Delhi Capitals' second win in the opening two matches, as they are at the top of the table, for now.

Former three-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) succumbed to their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), as they were beaten by Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dubai on Friday. Meanwhile, DC have now won two in two so far, as they won this tie by 44 runs.

Match report: Winning the toss, CSK skipper, MS Dhoni, invited DC to bat first, as the decision backfired. The openers were off to a terrific start, as they contributed 94 runs for the opening wicket, while Prithvi Shaw's 43-ball 64 played a pivotal role in helping the side finish on a challenging total of 175/3. Meanwhile Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant, too, scored above 30.

In reply, although CSK did not lose many wickets initially, it was some fine and economical bowling from the DC bowlers, especially the spinners, that mounted pressure on the batsmen. As the required run-rate started escalating, the batsmen got desperate to score. But, they were unable to find a proper solution to tackle the DC bowlers. Shaw hits second-most half-centuries under 21: Shaw's half-century made him script a record, as he now has the second-most 50s in the IPL under the age of 21, which happens to be five. The list is led by his DC teammate Rishabh Pant, who has nine so far.

DC script a second one with opening partnership: The 94-run opening stand between Shaw and Dhawan happened to be their only second 50+ opening stand against CSK in the tournament to date. Their first such stand came in 2008 when the sides met for the very first time. It happened to be a 115-run stand in Chennai, between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

Axar Patel gets better of Shane Watson on most: Although Watson has made a terrific impact playing for CSK, he is always under pressure when it comes to facing Axar. His dismissal tonight marked the sixth instance of him falling to Axar, as the latter became the joint-most successful to dismiss him on most occasions in the tournament, along with Amit Mishra.

Faf du Plessis fourth fastest to 2,000: Du Plessis again proved that he is their man to watch out this season. Nonetheless, he scored his 2,000 runs (67 innings) in the tournament tonight, as he, in the process, became the fourth-fastest among overseas players to do so. He is led by Watson (64), Shaun Marsh (52) and Chris Gayle (48).
