India vs Sri Lanka 2021: Indian team departs with Krunal Pandya in isolation
India and Sri Lanka were locked in limited-overs contests that ended with the third Twenty20 International on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Indians have departed from the island nation, while all-rounder Krunal Pandya stays isolated for testing COVID-positive.
It was a mixed outing for Team India in Sri Lanka, as it won the One-Day Internationals 2-1 before losing the Twenty20 Internationals 1-2. The tour, which saw a relatively inexperienced Indian side take over, end with the final T20I that India lost by seven wickets.
Meanwhile, with the tour commitments being done and dusted, the Indians have been flagged off from the island nation. However, all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been left behind, as he continues to stay in isolation after testing COVID positive three days back.
A BCCI official told PTI that Krunal has to stay back in Lanka as a part of the mandatory one-week isolation, following which he will have to come up with twin negative RT-PCR reports, upon which he could fly back. Currently, he is serving his fourth day in isolation, while all the players tested negative before taking off.
Earlier, the tour kicked off in a delayed fashion after some of the Lankans tested positive following their arrival from England. While the ODIs were lingered by five days, the second T20I had to be postponed by a day, with Krunal testing positive.
Besides Krunal, eight other Indians also had to be isolated: Hardik Pandya (brother), Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Deepak Chahar, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ishan Kishan and Yuzvendra Chahal. However, they all departed with the Indian team on Friday after testing negative.
