India vs England 2020-21: KL Rahul backed by Vikram Rathour despite T20I disappointments
KL Rahul is one of the talented Indian wicketkeeper-opening batsmen who hails from Karnataka. He plays for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, while he finished as the tournament's highest run-scorer in the 2020 edition. However, he has failed to click in the ongoing T20Is against England.
Indian wicketkeeper-opening batsman KL Rahul is undoubtedly one of India's most promising batsmen, especially in the limited-overs circuit. In the Indian Premier League, he plays for Punjab Kings, while he finished as the highest run-scorer during the 2020 season.
Consequently, he was expected to deliver to the fullest in the shortest format for India against England in the ongoing series. However, Rahul has failed to get into the double figures in the past four games.
Meanwhile, India's batting coach Vikram Rathour has continued to back the Karnataka-based player and feels that it would just take a knock for him to get back into the groove. Notably, Rahul has spent a lot of time on the sidelines in the past few months, owing to India's Test commitments.
"Anybody can have a lean phase and KL has been our best batsman in the T20 format. He is averaging 40 plus with a strike rate of 145 and three failures doesn't change the fact that he is the best batsman we have in this format. This is the time when we need to support him and I am absolutely sure he will come back out of the lean phase," said Rathour following India'sloss in the third T20I against England in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
"I agree they do tend to get rusty when they are sitting out, but the only thing we can do is to provide them practice. They are having a lot of net sessions and even in the middle. That's all they can do and we can just hope that one innings or one shot and they will be back in form. People like KL Rahul," he added.
Rahul's last T20I outing was in Australia, where he finished as the second-highest run-scorer, scoring 82 in three innings at an average of 27.00. Notably, skipper Virat Kohli has also bounced back to form after a lean patch in the past few games, which is sure to inspire Rahul in the coming days and matches.
