Team India is all set to take on the New Zealand challenge on Friday in the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship final at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. It is the maiden edition of the global Test tournament, as the winner would be crowned the king of Test cricket.
Ahead of the all-important clash, the Indian team announced its playing XI on Thursday. Led by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill would be the openers. At number three, it would be Cheteshwar Pujara, while Kohli is likely to come in at number four. They would be followed by vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane at five, while wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant should bat at number six.
At number seven would be all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, followed by fellow veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin at number seven. Interestingly, the side has decided to move in with two spinners, despite the possibility of a green track.
As for the proper bowling attack, the side has three specialist spinners in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami. Also, with overcast conditions being predicted throughout the playing days, it would be interesting to see how the seamers fare. From the 15-member squad announced on Wednesday, Wriddhiman Saha, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj fail to make the cut.
