Quinton de Kock is currently South Africa's number one wicketkeeper-batsman, across formats. He has played more than 200 international matches for Proteas, while he also plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, as he has turned 28 years old.
South Africa have produced a number of top players to date, including wicketkeeper-batsmen. While AB de Villiers is one such, who tops the chart in today's list, Quinton de Kock is also one of them, who is their full-time wicketkeeper.
Ever since making his debut in 2012, de Kock has sealed his place in the Proteas side, having made a tremendous impact across formats. He has also played for four teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), while he continues to be associated with reigning champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), since 2019.
Known for his exquisite cover drive, de Kock is one of the most prolific and consistent scorers for South Africa. As he celebrates his 28th birthday on Thursday, we take a look at his five records, he holds in international cricket.
Fastest South African to 1,000: It was in 2014 when he brought up his 1,000th run in the One-Day Internationals (ODI). Incidentally, he became the fastest from the nation to do so, in just 21 innings, going past Hashim Amla's previous record of 24.
Fastest to 150 Test dismissals: De Kock's wicketkeeping skills are quite sublime. It was in 2018 when he became the quickest wicketkeeper to inflict 150 dismissals in the longest format of the game, doing so in 35 matches, as he went past Australian legend, Adam Gilchrist, who did so in 36 games.
Fastest to 200 Test dismissals: Just a couple of years later, De Kock scripted another one on the same lines, as he also became the fastest to inflict 200 dismissals in the Tests. He attained the feat in 45 Tests, beating Gilchrist again, who did so in 47 Tests.
A unique one being opening wicketkeeper-batsman: In a remarkable record, De Kock is only the second wicketkeeper-batsman to score a century in the ODIs, while leading the side.
Fastest T20I half-century for Proteas: In another outstanding achievement, he holds the record of scoring the fastest T20I century for the side. He did so in just 17 balls, going past the previous best of himself and AB de Villiers, having done so in 21 deliveries.
