Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya was a part of the recent Indian team that toured Sri Lanka. However, he could not play enough matches after being diagnosed to be COVID positive. Consequently, he was sent into isolation along with seven other players and returned a few days after the Indian team left Colombo following the tour's conclusion.

Notwithstanding, according to a report by PTI, the medical officer of the Indian team in Lanka has come under the scanner for delaying Krunal's RT-PCR test by a day despite the all-rounder displaying symptoms. It adds that while Kruinal reported having throat pain on July 26, MO, Abhijit Salvi did not isolate him right away and even allowed him to attend the team meeting the following day before having the RT-PCR test done.

A Board of Control for Cricket in India told PTI that Krunal followed the protocol to inform the MO regarding his symptoms immediately. While he should have been isolated right away, nothing of that sort was done, while even the Rapid Antigen Test via a self-test kit was not done.

The source added that although the self-test kit is not conclusive, the MO should have followed the protocol. Also, the custom of getting tested every five days in Lanka is being questioned, despite players getting tested every three days during the Indian Premier League.

The source further said that timely intervention by Jay Shah (BCCI Secretary) saved the series from getting cancelled. While the agency contacted Silva on the same, he refused to comment anything.

Nevertheless, the series went ahead as planned with a minimal delay, as India had enough players on the side to continue. Although India won the One-Day Internationals 2-1, it lost the Twenty20 Internationals 1-2.
