Fact-check: Adani Group not shifting Mumbai Airport HQ to Ahmedabad

FollowSome days ago, media reports emerged that the Adani Group company Adani Airport Holdings Ltd would shift the management of the Mumbai Airport International Airport Ltd and the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport to Ahmedabad.
The shift, reports claimed, followed an organisation rejig that saw Adani Group appointing the Mumbai airport's Chief Executive Officer RK Jain as its CEO of airports.
This, after Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, took over the management of the Mumbai Airport International Airport Ltd from the GVK group a week earlier.
The issue took a political turn on Tuesday when the Maharashtra Congress termed the alleged decision as a deliberate attempt to bring down the importance of Mumbai.
Claiming that many industrialists came to Maharashtra and became a part of the state, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant took to Twitter to slam Adani Group. He said Andhra Pradesh-based GVK, which was managing the Mumbai airport earlier, never shifted its headquarters to Andhra Pradesh.
As the political storm intensified, the Adani Group issued a clarification.
Dismissing the reports of the shift to Ahmedabad as a rumour, the group said on Twitter that both Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports would remain headquartered in Mumbai.
The group further said that it was committed to make Mumbai proud and create thousands of jobs through our airport ecosystem.
The Mumbai airport is India's second busiest airport in terms of both passenger and cargo traffic.
AAHL has eight airports in its management and development portfolio, making it India's largest airport infrastructure company, accounting for 25% of airport footfalls.
With the addition of MIAL, AAHL also controls 33 per cent of India's air cargo traffic. With the management control of the Mumbai airport, AAHL is set to join the league of the world's leading airport operators that cater to over 100 million passengers and 200 million non-fliers in a year.
