Singer Unnikrishnan duped by online fraudsters loses lakhs

In yet another incident of internet fraudsters duping credit card users, playback singer P Unnikrishnan has lodged a police complaint that ₹1.62 lakh was fraudulently extracted from his credit card for online purchases by anonymous persons.

In his complaint the notes singer said the fraudsters stole the details of his credit card and used it for online transactions amounting to $2,000. He came to know about the incident only when he got the credit card statement. According to the statement, the fraudulent transaction took place on November 30.

The singer had made some online purchases using the card during his Mauritius visit, few days before the incident.

On knowing about the fraud Unnikrishnan approached bank authorities, informed them about the incident and blocked the card to prevent fraudsters from using the details for further transactions.

Police suspect that the transaction was done by online fraudsters who managed to steal the data. Fraudsters usually steal credit card details using a skimmer. However, we are not clear about the type of transaction for which the card was used for, the police said.

Unnikrishnan has registered a complaint at Anna Salai police station, Chennai.
