A controversy has erupted over Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Udham regarding its censorship and Oscar nomination. The film which was hoping to make it through the nominations for the Academy Awards has not found itself surrounded by controversy for allegedly showing the British in a ‘bad light’. Sardar Udham was hoping to make it as an official Indian entry to the Oscars 2022. However, the jury has blocked the film’s entry. The jury, on the other hand, decided to send the Tamil film ‘Koozhangal’ as the Indian entry.

As per the reports, the Shoojit Sircar directorial film has been dropped from the list. The Indian jury has reportedly cited that the film reflected ‘hatred’ against the British. It deemed it ‘unfair’ in the world of globalisation. Since the Oscar censor of the film, several people from the film fraternity have reacted against the decision. There has been uproar ever since the news broke about Sardar Udham’s censorship and dropping from the list.

The film which was released earlier this month on October 16, has garnered positive responses and reviews from people. It is based on the life of Sardar Udham Singh a martyr who went to the United Kindom to seek revenge from a British officer to India who was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. Although there has been no reaction from Vicky on the issue yet, the actor posted an image on his social media as a token of thank you for all the love that the film has received. Posing with a laddoo in his hand, Vicky thanked his fans. He also wrote that similar to Sardar Udham, he too shares the same love for laddoos. The film is produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar. It also featured actors Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu, and Kirsty Averton. Anmol Parashar was seen in a special appearance, essaying the role of Bhagat Singh.
