A lot of buzz was going around sending SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ and Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ as India’s entry for the 95th Academy Awards or the Oscars 2023. However, the official entry is neither of these but a Gujarati film. 'Chhello Show' has been selected as India's first entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.

The race for films to be presented in the Best International Feature Film category from India was witnessing a tough fight between the two blockbusters of this year. The two films that were being speculated as India's entry for this category were 'The Kashmir Files' and 'RRR'. But the Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' has won the race by becoming India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023.

Directed by Pan Nalin, the film is slated to release in English as 'Last Film Show' in cinemas across the country on October 14. FFI Secretary General Supran Sen reportedly said that 'Chhello Show' is India's official entry for Oscars 2023. 'Chhello Show' is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur's banner Roy Kapur Films, Jugaad Motion Pictures, Monsoon Films, Chhello Show LLP and Mark Duel. The film stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Rawal and Paresh Mehta in lead roles. It had its world premiere in June last year at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The film is inspired by Nalin's own memories, in which he fell in love with films as a child in the rural areas of Gujarat. It won several awards during its festival run, including the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival in Spain. 'Chhello Show' also did well at the box office during its theatrical release in Spain.
