Bollywood actor Jeetendra's first cousin, Nitin Dwarkadas Kapoor allegedly committed suicide today by leaping off his residence - a six-floor building in Andheri, Mumbai, police said. Kapoor is also the husband of popular South Indian actress and politician Jayasudha and he was staying in his sister's house in the city.
"Kapoor was jobless for the last 18 years. His family resides in Hyderabad, and he was staying in Mumbai at his sister's house," said DCP Ashok Dudhe, a police spokesperson.
Neighbours took him to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, they said. The 58-year-old was reported to be suffering from depression over the past one year and had been receiving treatment for the same. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, Dudhe said, adding there was nothing suspicious in the incident.
Nitin last spoke to wife Jayasudha, telling her that he would be coming down to Hyderabad. Also, he said to had booked the flight ticket to Hyderabad for Wednesday from Mumbai.
A case of accidental death report has been registered with the Versova police station, the senior official said. The reason for Kapoor taking the extreme step was not yet known, police said.
Kapoor married Jayasudha in the 1985 and has two sons - Nihar and Shreyansh. Shreyansh Kapoor was launched as a hero in a Telugu film Basti. The family has arrived in Mumbai upon learning the news.
