Manju made her debut as a leading actress in 1996 with the Malayalam film Sallapam. The movie was a blockbuster and was remade in Telugu as Egire Paavurama.

Her portrayal of the character Radha, from a poor family and dreaming of becoming a great singer, was much appreciated by audiences and critics. The movie also featured Manoj K Jayan and Dileep in the lead roles.

In a recent TV show Onnum Onnum Moonu, Manju opened up about a scary episode during the shoot of Sallapam.

Manju recalled how, while filming the climax sequence of the movie,  she was nearly killed.

In the scene, Manju tries to attempt suicide, so she runs towards a fast moving train. Unfortunately, the train was too fast in real life as well, and Manju forgot to move aside on time as she was so involved in her shot.

Back then rumours had gone around that Manju was overtaken by some unknown force which propelled her towards her death unknowingly. So much so, that actor Jayan had to slap her to make her come out of her trance. However, in the interview Manju made no mention of this. Instead she described how fate had other plans for her and as luck would have it, actor Manoj K Jayan pulled the actress back in the nick of time and saved her life.

Manju Warrier stated that she will always be thankful to Manoj for saving her life.

In Manju's professional front, she has bagged several projects one after the other. After being roped in for Mohanlal's villain, C/O Saira Banu, directed by Antony Sony and Kamal’s Aami, Manju will next be seen in Charlie director Martin Prakkat and actor Joju George's upcoming production.
