Kolkata Sonika Chauhan death Actor Vikram Chatterjee arrested under non bailable warrant

29-year old Tollywood actor Vikram Chatterjee was arrested late on Thursday night in connection with the death of model and TV anchor Sonika Chauhan. She died in a road accident in April in Kolkata, which also involved Tollywood actor Vikram Chatterjee. According to police, the actor was arrested close to Acropolis mall in Kasba, which is located off the Eastern Bypass.

Speaking to media, a senior police officer said, "He was missing for some time and on Wednesday we got the information that he was travelling in a radio taxi. We immediately alerted our officers and managed to arrest him. On Friday he will be produced in Alipore Court." Vikram has been charged with 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder', which is a non-bailable section (304) of the IPC.

Sonika was killed in a car accident on April 29. She was accompanied by Vikram Chatterjee who was driving the car, allegedly at a high speed in a drunk state. The car hit the divider and claimed the life of the actress. Vikram also incurred severe injuries in the accident. Sonika and Vikram were returning from a late night party when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a fight between Trinamool Congress and BJP in Bengal. The actor-turned-BJP state secretary Locket Chatterjee said that Vikram should have come out in the open and confessed to the crime. She also said that he was being guarded by TMC leaders Arup Biswas. She said, "Everybody knows that Arup and his brother control the Tollywood film industry. They are trying to shield the actor and we want Justice for Sonika. It is because of pressure from TMC leaders that the police have slowed down in the case. This is why Vikram was charged with minor cases so that he can get bail."

Vikram got bail on May 5 after he surrendered before a city court. On the same day, he called a press conference and announced that he was not drunk. Sonika's friends, however, took to social media and said that he was lying. Vikram is a well-known TV actor and film star who has been cast in films like Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends (Me and My Girlfriends). Sonika is also a popular anchor who hosted the Pro Kabaddi League and Big Boss Bangla.
