The union territory of Puducherry may be small geographically, but it has received intense political attention from the BJP, which has been keen to get another strong foothold in southern India.

Official trends for 11 seats at 11 am say NR Congress is leading on 6 seats, BJP on 2, DMK and Congress on 1 each.

In the union territory of Puducherry, the former Chief Minister N Rangaswamy-led All India NR Congress-BJP-AIADMK alliance and Congress-DMK combine are the key contenders for power.

A post-poll survey of the Union Territory of Puducherry suggests a regime change as All India NR Congress (AINRC), which is a part of NDA, looks set to form the next government.

In Puducherry, exit poll surveys have predicted a victory for the AIADMK-BJP-NR Congress alliance. The Congress lost power weeks ahead of elections after party MLAs resigned reducing the strength of the ruling alliance to 11 against the opposition's 14. Congress Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had to resign ahead of the trust vote on February 22.
