Lucknow: In a suspected case of honour killing in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district, a 19-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man were locked in a hut and set on fire allegedly by the girl’s family.

According to reports, the woman’s marriage was fixed by the family but allegedly she was found with the man in compromising position.

The man visited her when her family was away. The neighbours spotted them and informed the family who rushed to the spot and caught them. According to reports, the family asked the girl a complaint against the man, she however refused.

Fearing her marriage will be called off, both of them were locked in a hut and burnt alive.

The incident happened on Wednesday (August 5) and the victims were identified as Bhola and Priyanka.

Police have arrested four persons, including her parents and brother in connection with the case. They were identified as Priyanka’s father Hukum Singh, mother Asha Devi, brother Devendra Kumar, and Lakkhu Kumar, another relative and five others are absconding.

“The two were also distant relatives and the woman’s family had already fixed her marriage. After she refused to file a complaint against the man, her family members feared that the marriage might be called off,” Banda Additional Superintendent of Police Mahendra P Chauhan was quoted as saying.
