Nagpur: The Nagpur Central Prison authorities on Tuesday (August 4) rejected former Delhi University (DU) professor GN Saibaba's application seeking parole to attend the post-funeral rites of his mother who succumbed to cancer.

Saibaba is serving life sentence at the Nagpur jail after he was convicted for having naxal links. He had applied for parole after his mother's death on August 1. After her death, Saibaba had applied for ‘death parole’ to attend post-funeral rites.

As a protocol, the jail then sought a report from a local police station in Hyderabad. However, claiming the report to be 'unfavorable', his proposal for parole was turned down.

"As the report was not favourable, his application was rejected,” an official was quoted as saying.

Earlier, when he had asked for a bail to see his ailing mother, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court rejected his bail application on July 28.
