Bengaluru drug racket: City sees 735 cases in 8 months; East zone tops with 235 cases
Data from Bengaluru Police has put the city in a tight spot with 735 cases of drug dealing registered since January this year. As per a report, Bengaluru East tops the list with 235 cases.
Bengaluru: The city reported 735 cases related to drug dealing since January, causing Bengaluru top cop Kamal Pant to hold a meeting with additional commissioners and deputy commissioners in an attempt to clean up the city of the menace.
As per the report, Bengaluru East topped the list with 235 cases, Bengaluru North division reported 105 cases, Central division 15 cases, South 90 cases and South East 59 cases. Whitefield reported 71 cases and the North East division reported 160 cases.
As far as marijuana is concerned, most of the suppliers are Indians who bring the consignment from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and drugs like heroin, LSD, MDMA, and Ecstasy are handled by foreign nationals, mostly from Nigeria.
The CCB has been raiding the places in Yelahanka, Sampige Halli, Amruthalli, Hennur, Banaswadi, and the Bengaluru South East Division, and have made arrests and have been able to seize drugs.
Police also warned house owners to cross-verify the identity and character of tenants and in case they find anything suspicious, inform police, stating that landlords will also be made to appear before the station for failure to do so.
