Bengaluru: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has picked his choice all-time best fielders and there is a big surprise for the top spot.

Ponting, who played in an Australian joint record of 168 Tests, answered fans questions on Twitter on Monday (January 27). One of the Twitter users asked “Punter” on best fielders of all time.

The former skipper picked compatriot Andrew Symonds, South Africans AB de Villiers and Jonty Rhodes. To the question, “Top 3 fielders of all-time?,” Ponting wrote, “Andrew Symonds, AB de Villiers, Jonty Rhodes”.

Many consider Rhodes as the best fielder of the modern era. He set high standards in the field. Cricket fans still remember how Rhodes ran Pakistan batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1992 World Cup in Australia.

While some Twitter users said they were surprised to see Symonds name, others felt Ponting himself should have been in the list.

Ponting, who is Delhi Capitals’ coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said he is looking forward to work with Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

“I'm looking forward to working with the young Indian players that I coach at @DelhiCapitals, in particular Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant,” Ponting said.

All three, Iyer, Shaw and Pant are part of the Indian ODI team for the tour of New Zealand. Iyer and Pant are part of T20I squad too.
