Pataudi Trophy 2021: Sundar, Avesh, Gill ruled out; Shaw, Suryakumar announced as replacements

While a Team India is having a healthy time in Sri Lanka, another is preparing in England for the upcoming five-Test series for the Pataudi Trophy, starting August 4. However, the one in England has suffered three injury setbacks.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, all-rounder Washington Sundar has injured his right bowling finger. Although he had taken an injection, his recovery is to take some time, thus ruling him out.

Meanwhile, pacer Avesh Khan suffered a thumb injury during the warm-up game against County Select XI. Following an X-Ray, it was confirmed that he had suffered a fracture, thus ruling him out, while a specialist is dealing with his injury.

Also, opener Shubman Gill has a stress reaction on his left leg, while the same was confirmed via an MRI scan, thus ruling him out. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as replacements," announced BCCI in a release, besides having Prasidh Krishna and Arzan Nagwaswalla on standby.

Furthermore, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from the COVID-19 infection and has returned with a negative test, thus making him eligible to join the team. "Bowling coach B Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran have completed their self-isolation in London and have now joined Team India in Durham," it further stated.
