Pataudi Trophy 2021: India and England penalised with 2 WTC points for slow over-rate in 1st Test
India and England squared off in the opening Test of the Pataudi Trophy 2021 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham last week, as the Test ended in a draw. However, both sides were dicked a couple of points for maintaining a slow over-rate.
FollowIndia and England are involved in an intense five-Test series for the 2021 Pataud Trophy. The opening Test was held at Trent Bridge in Nottingham last week, with persistent rains forcing a draw on the final day.
However, both sides have been charged by the International Cricket Council for maintaining a slow over-rate. Consequently, they have been docked a couple of points each in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, besides being fined 40% of their match fees.
In the official report submitted to ICC by the match referee Chris Broad, both sides were a couple of overs short. The skippers of both sides, Virat Kohli and Joe Root accepted the charges.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short," explained ICC in its statement.
Meanwhile, the second Test would be played at Lord's in London from Thursday. India and England are kicking off the WTC campaign for 2021-23, with India and England being placed on first and second, respectively.
