Mumbai Indians is the record five-time defending champion of the tournament. Although it has more-or-less its squad set and retained the core, it would look to add a few more firepowers to its arsenal.

As per the IPL norms, 75% of the auction price purse has to be pent by the franchise. A team can also have a maximum of eight overseas players, while the entire squad limit is 25.

Initially, 1,114 players had registered for the auction. However, it has been curtailed down to 292, after franchises shortlisted their preferred choice of players. The pool includes 164 Indians, 125 foreigners and three players from associate nations. A total of 61 players can be bought during the auction.

The 14th edition of the affluent Indian Premier League is taking shape. Simultaneously, the significant build-up begins with the traditional pre-season mini-auction ceremony, which is being held in Chennai on Thursday. As many as 202 players are slated to go under the hammer.
