Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw did make a name for himself following his prolific debut three years ago. However, he has struggled to make an impact of late in the international circuit.

Meanwhile, he is coming off an impressive scoring spree in the just-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing as the tournament's highest run-scorer. As he looks to continue with the same momentum in the Indian Premier League for Delhi Capitals, head coach Ricky Ponting has come up with an exciting admission regarding his training.

Ponting's admission
Ponting admits that Shaw does not bat at the nets when he is going through a rough patch. However, he keeps batting for a prolonged period when he is on a run-scoring binge. "He had an interesting theory on his batting last year - when he's not scoring runs, he won't bat, and when he is scoring runs, he wants to keep batting all the time," Ponting was quoted by cricket.com.au.

"He had four or five games where he made under ten and I'm telling him, 'We have to go to the nets and work out', and he looked me in the eye and said, 'No, I'm not batting today'. I couldn't really work that out. He might have changed. I know he's done a lot of work over the last few months, that theory that he had might have changed, and hopefully, it has, because if we can get the best out of him, he could be a superstar player," he added.

International comeback
Despite his recent grey patch in the international circuit, Ponting is confident that the 21-year-old lad would be back with Team India soon and expressed his confidence in the latter gaining colossal success. "Maybe (his training habits) have changed for the better, because (his success) won't just be for the Delhi Capitals, I'm sure you'll see him play a lot of cricket for India as well in the coming years," he reckoned.

In IPL 2021
Ponting also hopes that Shaw continues with his explosive form in the IPL and takes hand DC its first title after finishing the runner-up last season. "If we can get him to take that form that he's just shown into the IPL, it just makes the balance on our Delhi Capital side so good. If (the penny) does drop, I'm not sure I've seen many more talented players than him in my whole time of playing the game," he concluded.
