IPL 2021: RCB to don special blue jersey during match against KKR for 'Oxygen' initiative

Royal Challengers Bangalore is yet to win the Indian Premier League title to date. RCB has time and again played for a particular cause every season, notably its 'Go Green' initiative, playing with a green jersey, as it plays in blue for the 'Oxygen' initiative this term.

Indian Premier League giant Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the sides to have not won the title to date. However, it continues to e one of the most fan-followed side, owing to the fact Indian skipper Virat Kohli leads it.

RCB is also famous for its unique initiative, playing for a particular cause every season. Over the years, it has played for the 'Go Green' initiative and donned a special green jersey in a match every season. The trend is to continue in IPL 2021, with the cause being slightly different this term.

RCB would be playing for a new initiative, called 'Oxygen'. It is an initiative taken upon by the franchise to help raise funds for enough oxygen supply to treat the COVID patients in the country.

On the same note, RCB  would also be wearing a special blue jersey during its upcoming game against former champion Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. Moreover, the jerseys would be auctioned after the game to raise funds for the initiative.

"RCB has identified key areas where much-needed help is required immediately in healthcare infrastructure related to Oxygen support in Bangalore and other cities, and will be making a financial contribution towards this. The RCB is going to be sporting a special Blue jersey in one of the upcoming matches with key messaging on our match kits to pay our respect and show solidarity to all the front line heroes who have spent majority of last year wearing PPE kits & leading the fight against the pandemic," said Kohli in a video posted by RCB.

"RCB will also auction all the signed player jerseys from this game to raise money and add to our earlier financial contribution supporting healthcare infrastructure. We urge all of you to stay safe at home and get vaccinated at the earliest opportunity," he concluded.

Of late, numerous contributions have come from different cricketers worldwide to help India on the same. Cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Brett Lee, followed by some renowned current cricketers like Shikhar Dhawan, Pat Cummins and many more, have played their part. Also, the Estonian Cricket Association has played its part by donating ₹1 lakh.

India is going through the severe second wave of the coronavirus, with more than 3.90 lakh new cases registered until May 1, along with more than 3,600 deaths. India is also struggling with an acute shortage of enough oxygen to treat the patients, with the nation taking help from other countries.
