Hamilton: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not played for India since July 2019 but his bus seat has not been occupied by anyone in the national team, revealed leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Dhoni’s last international match for India was against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final in England. In that game, the Virat Kohli-led side lost to the Kiwis to bow out of the competition.

Since then, Dhoni has not donned the Team India jersey. There is uncertainty over his future. Speculations are rife that he might quit the game. However, he is preparing for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which starts in March.

As India are currently in New Zealand to play five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests, Chahal spoke about how the team is missing Dhoni.

During the team’s bus journey from Auckland to Hamilton, Chahal spoke to his teammates and in the video he pointed to a seat which Dhoni used to occupy whenever the team used to travel in different places.

“Yeh woh seat hai jahan ek legend baithate the, Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai. Abhi bhi yaha koi nahi baittha. Hum unhe bohot miss karte hai (This is the seat that used to be occupied a legend. MS Dhoni. No one sits here now. We miss him a lot),” Chahal on Chahal TV. The video was posted on Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) website.

India lead the five-T20I series 2-0. The third game is in Hamilton tomorrow (January 29).
