Meta: The ICC Women’s World Cup would host its 12th edition next year. The tournament would be played in New Zealand with eight sides, with England being the defending champion. Meanwhile, ‘Girl Gang’ has been announced as the official theme song, sung by Kiwi pop star Gin Wigmore.

Women’s cricket is getting stronger with each passing day. Furthermore, the International Cricket Council makes sure to give proper and regular attention to women’s cricket like the men, making it equally competitive.

While ICC has introduced many women’s tournaments, the most significant one happens to the 50-over World Cup, generally known as the ICC Women’s World Cup. The next edition of the event would be held in 2022 in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, with a year to go for the competition, ICC has announced the official theme song for the event. Sung by Kiwi pop star Gin Wigmore, the song is named ‘Girl Gang’. The song is a part of her fourth album, Ivory, released in 2018.

Speaking on the song, Wigmore told ICC, “When you send a song out to the world, you never really know what will happen. You do certainly have hopes for it. I guess I had thought it would make a great theme song for something. So, when the ICC called, I was like, ‘Heck yeah, that is so cool’. I’m really thrilled. It’s so exciting.”

Wigmore has been an avid fan of the sport and admitted that the song did remind her of her days when she used to play beach cricket with her family. “I was kind of the kid who sat over to the side on the bench drawing and writing. So, this is actually going to be a really cool journey. I’m really excited about learning all about cricket and the World Cup. From what I’ve seen so far, these women are amazing athletes,” she concluded.

Here’s how the lyrics for the song goes:
‘Hit hard, cause a scandal
Can’t stop, I’m hard to handle
Don’t care if my halo dips
My rights to this is worth the risk
Run fast, blood of a champion
One chance to make it happen
Don’t care if my halo dips
My rights to this is worth the risk’
