Coronavirus: Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma donate to PM CARES Fund, CM relief fund

New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma on Monday (March 30) announced that they will be donating to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) and the chief minister’s relief fund to fight against the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Kohli, who has been active on social media and is urging people not to venture out of their homes during the 21-day lockdown, took to Twitter to make an announcement.

"Anushka and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Our hearts are breaking looking at the suffering of so many & we hope our contribution, in some way, helps easing the pain of our fellow citizens #IndiaFightsCorona," Kohli tweeted on Monday (March 30).

On Saturday (March 28), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had donated Rs 51 crore to PM CARES Fund. "Mr Sourav Ganguly, President, Mr Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary and Office Bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the affiliated state associations on Saturday announced to donate INR 51 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to contribute towards strengthening the nation’s disaster management capacities and encourage research to combat COVID-19 and protect Indian citizens," BCCI said in a media advisory.

Cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan too have contributed to PM CARES Fund. Raina said he has donated Rs 31 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to Uttar Pradesh CM relief fund.
